Hey Chicago food folks, farmers, and policy nerds! You all know about the Good Food Festival at UIC this Thursday-Saturday, right? Thursday is devoted to exploring financing options for food and farm ventures, Friday has a food policy and school food focus, and Saturday is the main event, with an urban farm bus tour, a fermentation workshop with Sandor Katz (these two events are extra though… sad face, I love Sandor! My coworker joked that he wanted to bring in a jar of his kimchee for him to autograph- ha!), and chef demos, workshops, and teaching sessions all day long! There’s an exhibit hall full of farmers and local food businesses with info and samples, and activities for families and children. Come see me Friday at The Plant’s table!
I’ll be teaching two informal info sessions in the Good Food Commons on Saturday morning- one on Food Dehydrators 101 at 11 am and Freezing the Harvest at 11:30. Come say hi and ask questions about these two super-easy ways to preserve fresh local food for the off-season, stock up on handy snacks, and easy to prepare meal basics!
