Etymology. The term “apothecary” derives from the Ancient Greek ἀποθήκη (apothḗkē, “a repository, storehouse”) via Latin apotheca (“repository, storehouse, warehouse”, cf. bodega and boutique), Medieval Latin apothecarius (“storekeeper”), and eventually Old French apotecaire.
