HOMEBREW: BIAB Mocktoberfest Ale

Beer? For breakfast? Sure, when it’s biertreberbrot (spent grain bread) toast with butter and bourbon brown sugar jam, bacon, and eggs (Also, it was lunch).

And here are some highlights from my first brewday with the fella (and his first ever). Feels good to brew again… And smells even better! Want to learn more about the basics of brewing? Head on over here!

Also, who needs a pulley for BIAB (brew in a bag) when you have a powerlifter? This is my first time brewing with this method- still working out the kinks but it’s a really easy way to get into all-grain brewing without a lot of equipment (we’ll probably build a mash tun cooler at some point, but for now, this is fine). Extract brewing is fine, but all-grain is budget friendly (especially this method), gives you more control over ingredients and outcomes, is more traditional, and a lot of fun!

So. Much. Munich. Malt. Made 5 gallons of Mocktoberfest (from an all-grain Octoberfest kit from Adventures in Homebrewing, pitched with a packet of Nottingham yeast), and also: 7 future pizzas (via portioned and frozen dough), 2 loaves of bread, a full dehydrator load of grain drying to grind for flour, 2 half sheets of peanut butter dog cookies, 12 cups of food processed grain mash frozen for future bread and pizza, and still a gallon left for the chickens. Phew!
