CHICKENS: Coop dreams, and some very amateur carpentry

My most serious foray into carpentry yet… I made it up as I went but turned out better than I expected! And it’s survived the gale today… so far. Fingers crossed. It was a good learning experience, and practice for the more important framing to come later.

Yes, I know it’s blurry but it’s better this way… and a LOT better than what we started with!

Some before shots of what I started with:

And just in time… Winter is Coming! Should help keep the ladies nice and cozy this winter and out of the snow.

    1. we recently pulled all the rabbit hutch runs and chicken tractor into the 15*50 hoop house for the winter since it’s been staying around freezing. Currently working on an “ice proof” circulating water system with a small pump, heater, an old insulated ice chest and leftover pvc for the rabbits and chooks. I had tomatoes out the ears this year from a few plants so I’ve got some clones in a hydro kit in the south bedroom window for next year. Sure miss you, Sissy McDucky!

      1. So, do we get to call you Farmer GoJoe now? I winterized my chicken waterer, which is a five gallon bucket with a couple chicken nipples installed in the bottom- sorta like a rabbit bottle, but for birds… once they learn to use it, it’s a lifesaver. They can’t poop in it. Priceless. Drop in a submersible aquarium heater, and it’s ready for winter. Hopefully I can make it home soon and see your little farmette and hug those kiddos! -Auntie C
