HIKE: Kankakee River State Park

Happy Public Lands Day! Went for a birthday weekend walk along the Kankakee River, and while I didn’t find any good mushrooms, there were plenty of nuts.

Acorns, black walnut, hickory, and… Coconuts? Found a dozen stashed at the base of a tree near the river. Sun bleached, but heavy and full of liquid, so I busted one open with a rock, and they’re still good! Yes, we packed them out. It’s piña colada time!
